In order to more fully describe what this site does I’ve updated the name to Acushare. now with Acushare you can securely and confidently share photos, videos, documents, news and updates with your friends.

Fixing bugs

There are several updates going out each day to fix issues and tweak items with the ReadPath 2.0 release.

Some of the larger items:

Emails being sent properly on invites, shared items, comments
Default groups being added for new users
Sharing with Individuals is fixed after there being a bug causing messages not to go out initially
Layout on /user pages changed to make it easier to view friends albums
performance improvements for photo uploads
lots of smaller items

I’m collecting feedback from users to make this site as user friendly and intuitive as possible. Feel free to send email or call with any comments or suggestions that you have.

New version coming

The next version of ReadPath is almost complete. Filling in a bunch of holes in functionality at the moment. The plan though is to get it completed during the holiday break and launched around New Years.

There will be some downtime while the actual changes are pushed out, quite a few adjustments to the back-end required. I’ll announce here ahead of time when that will be specifically.

Adding ReadPath RSS Feed Subscriptions to Chrome

If you’d like a quick and easy way to subscribe to feeds in ReadPath while browsing the web with Chrome you can add ReadPath as an RSS Subscription Option. First make sure you have the RSS Chrome Extension installed, then when you click on an RSS link you’ll be given a preview of the feed with subscription options. In order to add ReadPath as a subscription option:

select the “manage” option in the drop down box.
click “add” to add a new subscription type
In the popup box put “ReadPath” in the description
In the popup box put “http://www.readpath.com/add/?url=%s” in the URL field.
click save

You should now have a default subscription option called ReadPath so that when you come across RSS feeds on the web it’ll be simple to add them.

Thumbnail Image Issue Fixed

Found the fix for thumbnail images not showing on posts for all browsers other than Firefox. That’ll teach me not to be lazy and test only in Firefox on a Mac. Who knew that anyone used anything else?

Turns out that Firefox is very forgiving with a fat finger typo in some javascript. The other browsers, not so much.

Should be fixed now though.

Video issue fixed

A couple users reported having some trouble sharing items that contained videos. The share dialog would be hidden behind the flash video on the page.

I’ve pushed out an update that should solve this problem for all users. It’s fixed it for all of the browsers that I have available here to test with, but of course let me know if it’s still a problem for you.

Email bug fixed

There was a bug when sending direct messages to another user where the referenced item was not included.

There was just a push to the live site that fixed this issue. Let us know if you see any future issues with shared emails.

Unread item changes

The backend system for determining unread has items has been totally revamped as of todays deployment. This will make it possible to do some cool new things and should free us up quite a bit scalability wise. The one downside is that the new system is not backwards compatible with the old one. So older unread items were marked as read. There shouldn’t be any further need for changes of this type in the future.

In the next couple days you should see the new features based on this infrastructure rolling out. If you see any issues with Unread Item weirdness before then, let us know.

Email update

Over the weekend a new format for emails was introduced. ReadPath is now sending out dual format text / HTML emails. This should be a much cleaner format for receiving updates and notifications. Plus it should gracefully fall back to text if your email client can’t handle the HTML formatting.

Along with the formatting update I’ve just pushed another update this morning that allows you to be very specific on who you want to receive email updates from. If you go to your profile page, the email preferences area has been changed to allow you to pick which groups of users you would like to get notifications from. So if you’d like to only receive email updates from Friends and Family, but not from Coworkers or the Public, it’s now possible to do this.

Subscription search has been updated

There was an update to the subscription search pushed yesterday that has finished building and is now live. There were dozens of small tweaks to the way that the content of a subscription is examined and how its scored. Overall, this should make the results more relevant.

Just a reminder that new subscriptions are being added on a daily basis. The depth of content is increasing fairly dramatically. If you looked for something and it wasn’t there a little while ago, it may be worth checking again. And of course if there is a site that you know you want to subscribe to, you can always add it by URL on the homepage.
